Herons Ghyll Nursing Home is completed

Practical completion has been achieved on the 60 bed nursing care home with visitors lounge, cinema, laundry and kitchen at Herons Ghyll.

Built in the grounds of a country house without any mains sewers, the foul drainage utilises a small bio treatment plant which it shares with the adjacent residential development prior to discharging to the existing water courses.

The nursing home is traditionally constructed over 2 floors using load bearing masonry with a beam and block ground floor and wide span precast units to the first floor. After the soils investigation was reviewed it was agreed that mass concrete strip footing were the appropriate foundation solution and they were taken to varying depth to take into account the proximity of existing trees around the building.

The pitched roof is formed using proprietary timber trusses and these were strengthened in areas to take plant loading within the roof space.
